Personal life- Lalu Prasad was born to Kundan Rai and Marachhiya Devi and has five siblings. Lalu has a Bachelor's degree in Law and a Masters degree in Political Science from BN College, Patna University.
Lalu Prasad is married to Rabri Devi and has seven daughters and two sons. His daughter Misa is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Patliputra. His son Tejaswi is known to be an active member of the party and even takes care of the social media for the party.
He is known for his comic timing has has often seen taking a dig at the opposition leaders with jokes. Lalu is also known to have cracked some jokes during the Lok Sabha sessions.
Political life- Lalu was an active member of the Bihar Movement led by Jai Prakash Narayan that was against rising prices, corruption and unemployment. While a part of the movement, Lalu was nominated as Janata Party candidate during the Lok Sabha election in 1977.
In 1990 the Janata Party came to power and Yadav was chosen as the CM of Bihar. But the CBI soon issued a warrant against him in the Fodder Scam and he had to resign as the CM. Later his wife took over as the CM, but she too was criticised for her work.
Due to the Fodder scam a revolt broke in the Janata Party. That is when Lalu decided to leave the party and formed a new political party, Rashtriya Janata Dal in 1997. Lalu was also the Railway Minister in 2004 in the UPA government.
During his stint as Railway minister, Lalu banned the use of plastic cups in trains and introduced kullads, mud cups. Under his leadership the railway ministry registered a lot of profit.
Yadav however could not escape the law and was convicted in the Fodder scam in Oct 2013, following which he lost his membership of Lok Sabha.
Recently he took on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi saying that he (Lalu) was a tea seller before Modi was selling tea.
