Police resorted to mild lathi charge and even used water canons to disperse the crowd that was trying to make its way across the barricades.
Many Youth Congress workers are said to be injured in the standoff. Police said the number of protesters was around 4,000 and as they reached Parliament Street, the crowd turned aggressive and broke barricades put up by them.
Congress leaders, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Raj Babbar were seen protesting with the crowd. Party workers hailed the land acquisition bill as 'anti-farmer' and said that the BJP was not worried about the farmer.
Another party leader Sachin Pilot said: "The BJP is the same party that had proposed changes in the land acquisition bill but today they are opposing (the changes) them."
Congress workers launched the protest from Bhatta Parasaul in Uttar Pradesh and reached Rajghat last night and then on Monday continued with the march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament.
