Union minister Babul Supriyo injured in bike accident, taken to AIIMS

New Delhi, May 6: Union Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo was injured in a road accident on Thursday (May 6) evening when the motorcyle he was riding hit a vehicle near Moti Bagh in South Delhi.

The singer-politician fell off as a result of the impact and hurt his elbow and chest. He was taken to the AIIMS where he was kept under observations.

The incident happened around 7 pm when Supriyo was riding his motorcycle from his residence in New Moti Bagh to the airport to receive his daughter who was arriving from Mumbai. The minister took the decision to go by a two-wheeler to give a surprise to his daughter, said sources. [Babul Supriyo chases drunk TMC protestor during Bengal polls]

Senior police officers said the minister, who is an MP from Asansol in West Bengal, lost his balance after his motorcycle rammed into a Toyota Innova which was travelling just in front, at a traffic signal near the Dhaula Kuan crossing. The vehicle driver's sudden application of the brake led to the accident, it was said.

Supriyo was wearing a helmet which prevented an injury to his head. His security officials who were following him took him to the hospital in his official vehicle.
