Sushma Swaraj to meet John Kerry ahead of Modi's visit to US

New Delhi, June 10: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is set to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry sometimes in the next months ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington in September.

Though the date and venue of the Sushma-Kerry talks are yet to be fixed, sources said preparations for the Strategic Dialogue, an annual ministerial level meeting between India and the US, could take a long time and a date for the meeting could be settled only in August.

The talks between the two leaders will be the first political engagement between the two countries after Narendra Modi took over as the prime minister last month following his massive victory in the Lok Sabha election. The talks are always significant, given the recent lows in the bilateral relation between the two countries.

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Desai Biswal met with MEA officials on Monday and the two sides spoke on restarting talks on commerce, infrastructure, foreign direct investment and defence sales and cooperation.
