Supreme Court stays order on Gauhati HC verdict on CBI
The Gauhati High court had questioned the CBI's administration and legal foundation terming it as an unconstitutional body.The Supreme Court accepted the Centre's plea in respect to the case. The SC said that it was concerned with all the cases pending in the CBI.
As of now there are 9,000 cases pending in the CBI and over 6 ,000 people who work in the organisation. In addition to that there are about 1,000 on-going cases in the body.

Attorney General GE Vahanvati said that High Court reasoning that DPSE Act not applicable to CBI is a convoluted logic.
The government had filed an appeal in the SC against the Gauhati High Court ruling which called the CBI unconstitutional. the government had said that the verdict would have serious implications on the functioning of the CBI.
