Sheila Dikshit thanks Sonia Gandhi, says 'UP is a big responsibility'

New Delhi, July 14: Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who was named as Congress's chief ministerial candidate for Uttar Pradesh, said that 'UP is a big responsibility.'

After Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad announced at a press conference on Thursday that Dikshit would be the party's face in the UP Assembly elections slated to be held next year, Dikshit spoke to reporters and said: "Want to thank Congress high command for the responsibility."

UP is a big responsibility: Sheila

It is a big responsibility, Dikshit added and said that the challenge in UP was a big one and that party would put up a brave fight. "Accepting challenge is a good thing, and we accept it," Dikshit said.

On asking about Priyanka Gandhi's role in the party, Dikshit responded: "I would like her (Priyanka) to campaign whenever she wishes to."

Congress had kept Dikshit's name under wraps for a very long time. For several weeks it was said that Priyanka Gandhi would be the chief ministerial candidate in UP.

By projecting Dikshit, the Congress is likely to cater to the Brahmin votes in the state.
