Sexual Assault: Breather for Asaram; no CBI probe against godman
A Chennai-based DI, who has been identified as Nathan, filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a court-monitored CBI probe into an alleged sexual assault case involving the septuagenarian.
A bench headed by Justice AK Panaik also turned down the plea for guidelines for fast-track trial of offences against minors saying it is for the legislators to frame the law.

The petitioner also had sought a direction to the Home Ministry to ask "all district SP-level officers across the country for objective investigation by a police team of female investigators sensitized to deal with the offences involving sexual assault of child or juvenile."
However, the apex court overruled such plea saying, "We are not legislators. You go to legislators with your grievances."
The spiritual leader has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl in ashram near Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Aug 15. The 16-year-old victim had filed a case against Asaram who later was arrested from his Indore ashram in Madhya Pradesh. Asaram currently has been lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail.
