New Delhi, Aug 2: "Why do you think the name should have an effect on us?" This is what Justice J S Khehar had to say to an advocate who dropped the name of Sonia Gandhi during an argument in the Supreme Court.

The advocate Prakash Kumar arguing against a jail term in a corruption related case had sought an adjournment. While justifying his plea for an adjournment, he told the Bench comprising Justices Khehar and Arun Mishra that the other senior advocate received an urgent call from Sonia Gandhi (Congress President) and had to leave the court.

The Bench took strong exception to this and said that the court is not interested in knowing anything beyond the case. It is unfair on your part to dropped the name (Sonia), Bench also observed.

What do you want to tell us?

Justice Khehar took exception to the incident and said: "What do you want to tell us. Are you showing off or trying to influence us? Do not underestimate the authority of the court. What sort of an impression will this create? We cannot let you do this here," Justice Khehar also observed.

Justice Mishra said that this was enough to haul him up for contempt of court. "Is it someway of trying to influence the court," Justice Mishra also questioned.

Following this observations the judges asked Kumar to go before another Bench. List after a week before another Bench, the court ordered.
