New Delhi, Sept 15: Justice C Nagappan on Thursday recused himself from hearing a petition that sought the intervention of the Supreme Court to improve the law and order situation in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The petitioner said that in the aftermath of the Cauvery Waters interim order both states have witnessed violence and the situation is likely to worsen if the court does not intervene.

The situation is already volatile and hence the court must step in and issue directions to ensure that law and order is maintained. Further the petitioner also sought the court's direction to both states to act against all those persons who have indulged in violence.

While normalcy has returned in Karnataka, the situation continues to be volatile. On Thursday, activists attempted to carry out a rail roko, but their attempts have so far been foiled by a huge security presence outside railway stations across Karnataka.

On Friday, a bandh has been declared in Tamil Nadu.
