SC asks AIIMS to review Asaram's medical records

New Delhi, Oct 15: The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to review the medical records of Asaram Bapu, the self-styled godman who is in jail in a rape case, and also sought submission of the report within four weeks.

In August, the apex court had directed setting up of a medical board to examine the seventy-three-year old Asaram for trigeminal neuralgia, which causes severe headaches to those afflicted with the condition.

Asaram is currently in jail after a 16-year-old girl lodged a police complaint on August 20, 2013, accusing him of sexually assaulting her at his ashram in Jodhpur.

Asaram will remain in jail as the court said that his bail would only be considered after all the witnesses in the case have deposed before the trial court.

Asaram Bapu was arrested in Jodhpur on September 1, 2013, after his supporters put up a lot of resistance. He had dismissed the allegations against him and also accused the Congress of orchestrating a conspiracy against him.
