Shetti said Rahul Gandhi took a long time to realise the problems with the agrarian sector but welcomed his initiative, saying his good wishes are with the Congress vice-president.

Rahul Gandhi began his march in Vidarbha on Thursday to highlight the farmers' distress.

The ruling BJP-Shiv Sena coalition dismissed the Congress vice-president's padyatra as a political gimmick and said the fortune of farmers in Maharashtra had dipped in the last 15 years when the Congress-NCP coalition was in power.

Shetti's discomfort with the BJP was made stronger by the saffron party's growing closeness with the NCP. The Swabhimani Paksha has also expressed its displeasure with the BJP for not accommodating it in either the Union or the state cabinet.

Shetti said Rahul Gandhi took a long time to realise the problems with the agrarian sector but welcomed his initiative, saying his good wishes are with the Congress vice-president.
