The trunk was first spotted by the parking boy who said that the trunk was not there when he left for home the previous midnight. Passer-bys, finally, alerted the police control room at 10:30 am. Police, hence, suggests that the trunk had been dumped early in the morning.
Dressed in a yellow salwar-kameez, police spotted clear marks of assault on the cheek and the lips that were swollen. There were strangulation marks too.
"She also had a tattoo "PK" on the right wrist," said another police official. While the police is banking on missing reports or pictures of missing people resembling the girl, the CCTV footage is also being investigated.
Although grainy, the footage does show two men dumping the trunk in front of the metro station. They were spotted coming to the spot from behind a metro pillar that could not be covered by the camera. "The recording is grainy. We are trying to get a clearer print of the recording. Once we identify the woman and the two men, we can proceed further," said Sanjay Beniwal Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range).
Police further said,"The woman had applied vermilion, which is prominently visible. We will first try to identify her husband, which will throw more light on the case. We have asked all police stations to keep a lookout for any missing report regarding any person bearing a resemblance to the woman whose body we have found."
Given that there were no signs of decomposition of the body, it is being deduced that the woman had been murdered just a few hours before the discovery.
