Narendra Modi govt to send water by trains to crisis-hit areas

New Delhi, June 9: The government of Narendra Modi has decided to send water to the crisis-hit parts of the country by the railways as a measure to deal with the consequences of an inadequate rainfall likely this season, a report published in Bengali daily Ei Samay said on Monday.

According to the report, the Centre has already written to all states, including West Bengal, and the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation is preparing a blue print on executing the plan. The districts likely to be affected by drought situations have been asked to send reports on the probable impact of the crisis and also about the connectivity of those areas by train.

The Centre has sought details on the requirement from all states last month

The idea to send water to crisis-hit areas by train is not new. But the plan has been executed so far in areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat and now it has been decided to cover the entire country.
