New Delhi, Dec 13: BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday asked his party to step up its fight against Trinamool Congress (TMC) and its supremo Amit Shah after the arrest of Madan Mitra, a minister of Mamata's government, in connection to the Saradha chit fund scam. [Backing Madan Mitra: Is Mamata afraid if he spills the beans]
Shah told the state BJP leadership and those in charge of the state that Madan Mitra is the closest among all those who have been arrested in connection to the Saradha scam and more Banerjee stands by him, the more she will be exposed. The BJP feels that the same situation had occurred towards the end of the former Left Front government after the Singur fiasco. The more Banerjee tries to shield Madan Mitra, the more people would feel suspicious about the chief minister.
BJP leader in-charge of Bengal Siddharth Nath Singh said the arrest of Mitra proved that the TMC is deeply buried in corruption and the probe is fast reaching Banerjee's doorsteps. Singh said Banerjee should resign on moral grounds.
The West Bengal chief minister lashed out at the CBI and BJP government at the Centre after the arrest of Mitra, saying it was politically motivated. She said a BJP leader held a rally in Kolkata last month where he gave a sequence of events and the CBI acted as per that.
She also dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah to arrest her.
