Consult chief ministers on Modi issue, Murli Manohar advises Rajnath

New Delhi, Sept 11: Senior BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi on Wednesday advised party president Rajnath Singh to consult the chief ministers of all poll-bound BJP states on the question of anointment of Gujarat Chief Minister and the chief of the party's campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as the prime ministerial candidate.

Singh spoke to senior party leaders LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj who have objected to the Modi's elevation before the assembly elections in five states due in a few months. While another section of leaders along with the RSS want the declaration to come immediately. Rajnath met Advani at the latter's residence on Wednesday but reportedly failed to break the ice. On the other hand, Swaraj said that getting Advani's approval on the issue is important.

Rajnath latter met Joshi at the latter's place where he reportedly advised him to take the CMs of BJP-ruled states  into confidence. A few days ago, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also spoke in favour of making the announcement after the assembly elections got over. Two BJP-ruled states, namely, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, are among those states that will go to the polls this year.

A crucial two-day meeting took place between the RSS and BJP on Sunday and Monday and the RSS reportedly asked the BJP president to decide on the timing of the announcement of the decision. Sources said the decision could come on September 13. TV reports said Rajnath Singh could implement his Plan B, which is to consult each member of the parliamentary board personally on the matter and make a straight announcement.

Another senior party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said the matter will be resolved soon.
