Manmohan Singh to address rally in Chhattisgarh today

New Delhi, Nov 9: After the Congress president and vice-president, it is the turn of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit poll-bound Chhattisgarh on Saturday. Singh is set to address a rally in Raipur to garner support for the party in one of the strongest BJP bastions in the party. Security was beefed up across the state, particularly in the Maoist-affected Bastar region, ahead of the prime minister's visit.

Chhattisgarh will see the first phase of its two-phased assembly polls on Monday. On Friday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi flayed the Raman Singh government in his address at Rajnandgaon over the deadly Maoist attacks that wiped out the Congress leadership in the state.

Both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi slammed the Raman Singh govt in their addresses

He said the slain state party president Nand Kumar Patel was certain to become the chief minister and death was the only way to stop him. Twenty-five people, including top Congress leaders from the state and also a former Union minister, were killed in the attack on May 25.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi addressed a rally in Bastar on Thursday where she accused the BJP government in the state of playing divisive politics.

The results of the Chhattisgarh elections, along with those in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, will come out on December 8.
