New Delhi, Jan 25: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the widow of constable Vinod Kumar, who was killed during a raid on suspected liquor mafia in south Delhi's Ghitorni area last month.

The CM had announced the financial assistance on January 1.

Kejriwal presented the cheque to Kumar's widow Savita Devi along with a citation at Delhi Government's Republic Day celebrations in Chhatrasal Stadium here on Saturday..

The financial assistance was announced by the chief minister on January 1.

In a letter to Savita, widow of 48-year-old Vinod Kumar, Kejriwal had said the government will provide all possible help to the family besides the compensation.

Kumar was beaten to death by the assailants when he had accompanied a team of excise department officials during a raid in Ghitorni. He was on deputation with the Excise Department of Delhi government.

The Delhi chief minister had drawn flak for staging a street protest in the national capital earlier this week demanding state government's control over the Delhi Police.
