Karva Chauth tragedy: Husband provokes wife to drink phenyl in Delhi
According to reports, the husband-wife had a heated argument as wife did not observe Karva Chauth fast for her husband. The incident occurred in East Delhi's Kalyanpuri area.
45-year-old Vijay, who works as a DTC conductor, asked his 39-year-old wife Mahesh Kumari, whether she has observed Karva Chauth fast or not, when he returned home after completing his shift.
On hearing "NO" from his wife, Vijay reportedly got angered and started beating her. Then, Mahesh asked Vijay, what punishment she should give herself for not observing fast.
Then, Vijay provoked her to consume phenyl and in the nick of time, she went to bathroom and drank phenyl.
The couple's four children including three sons and a daughter rushed their mother to nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital.
On hearing "NO" from his wife, Vijay got angered and started beating her.
The condition of Mahesh is said to be critical as she consumed large amount of phenyl.
Meanwhile, police has registered a case under Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Vijay.
Since the incident took place, Vijay is absconding. Police have launched a manhunt for him.
