New Delhi, April 29: A delegation from Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation (KSMDMC) led by its chairperson Kamalakshi Rajanna and Managing Director Kadire Gowda on Friday met Union Agriculture Secretary Shobhan Kumar Patnaik here and sought a royal route for exporting the fruits produced in the state.
Karnataka is the third-largest producer of mangoes, after Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The state produces mangoes of variety kinds: Alphonso, Banganpalli, Mallika, Raspuri and Thothapuri in an area measuring 2 lakh hectares.
The expected yield of the fruit for the current year is between 14 and 15 lakh metric tonnes.
However, the mangoes produced in the state are exported via Maharashtra and the KSMDMC is eyeing to create a brand idendity for the state-grown mangoes. It has appealed to the Centre to take necessary action to facilitate the fruits' export by making it direct.
Deputy Director of KSMDMC Gunavantha, consultant of the State Mango Board Kantha Raj, senior manager of Innova Biopark KP Venkatesh and mango-grower from Chikkaballapur GA Bhava were among the delegates.
