New Delhi, Dec 3: Chief of the Indian Army General Bikram Singh on Monday left for the USA on a four-day tour. He will meet his American countrpart General Raymond T Odierno besides being inducted into the 'Hall of Fame' of the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, from where he had graduated a decade ago, sources in the army headquarters said.
General Singh's visit comes at a time when the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is preparing for a pull-out from Afghanistan, paving way to a major challenge to the security situation in South Asia.
General Singh is scheduled to meet top military and civilian officials of the US
General Singh's visit is also important in the light of the improved defence cooperation between the two countries over the last few years and the fast increasing defence engagements under the New Framework for India-US Defence Relations as per the 2005 bilateral pact.
The army chief is also scheduled to meet top American defence and civilian officials besides visiting establishments of the US Armed Forces.
