Independence Day- Modi opts out bullet proof enclosure again

New Delhi, Aug 15: For the second year in a row, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose not to deliver his Independence Day speech from behind a bullet proof glass enclosure.

Although the Home Ministry was in favour of installing a bullet proof glass enclosure during Independence Day address, the Prime Minister opted out of it.

Connecting with people better:

Last year when Modi delivered his first Independence Day speech as Prime Minister, he had insisted to the Home Ministry not to install the bullet proof glass enclosure.

He said that he would connect better with the people without the enclosure and the Home Ministry agreed with him.

This year around the Home Ministry was more persistent as the threat levels were exceptionally high. However this time too, Modi insisted that the bullet proof enclosure should not be installed and he had his way with it.

Nation on alert:

Various incidents in the recent months including the hanging of Yakub Memon had put the nation on high alert. The Intelligence Bureau which conducts regular threat analysis says that the threat perception where Modi is concerned is extremely high.

In fact he is the Prime Minister under the highest threat after Rajiv Gandhi, an IB official informed.

The security cover for the Independence Day this year is at an all time high. The hanging of Yakub Memon and the madness with which Pakistan has been directing attacks against India are all factors that have led to the enhancement of security.

All areas in and around Delhi have been sanitized. Vehicles coming into the city are being checked thoroughly and all alerts that are being received by the Intelligence Bureau are being analysed and scrutinized.

High rise buildings have been sanitized, officers part of the security arrangements inform.
