New Delhi, Oct 7: In the recent attacks that have been carried out by Pakistani terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, it has been found that they had dumped the satellite phones for cognitive radio communication devices. These devices are comparatively difficult to track, officials say.

Further the terrorists have also been using smartphones with specially developed software. For instance, they have used an application called Skipe, which is their variant for Skype, investigations have also found.

In addition to this, they have also developed an app called Calculator. This app is a replacement for WhatsApp. Unlike WhatsApp, Calculator does not leave a trail of the conversation the terrorists have had with their handlers or other members of their group.

These applications are created by the information technology division of the Lashkar-e-Taiba with help from the technical staff of the Pakistan army. These applications are placed on off-air networks. These applications are then downloaded from the off-air networks by terrorists before they embark upon their mission.

The technology cell of the Lashkar-e-Taiba which has been in place since 2004 has being enhancing its capabilities. The intent is to ensure that the use of manpower to help in infiltration is minimized.

The Lashkar-e-Taiba does not want terrorists to use local guides to infiltrate into India as this leaves a major trail. They want their militants to use smart technology and carry out an operation entirely on their own.
