New Delhi, May 6: Has Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi finally joined the Twitter? According to reports, the leader joined the microblogging site on Wednesday and his handle is called @OfficeofRG. It, however had no bio on it and was yet to send out any tweet as of 10 pm.
The account carries a profile picture of the 44-year-old Gandhi and had over 2,200 followers as of 10 pm, including the official Twitter account of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the students' wing of the Congress party.
A senior Congress leader said the account was authentic and belonged to the party vice-president's office. He said the account was yet to be verified as it was opened on Wednesday but confirmed that it was Rahul Gandhi's account.
Oneindia could not verify the authenticity of the account independently in the absence of any official confirmation by the party.
Politicians of today's India have increasingly been turning to the social media for it is a major means of communication to reach out to the youth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) is a routine user of social media and one of the top three most-followed leaders in the world on Twitter with 12.1 million followers.
