Former Delhi Principal secretary Rajendra Kumar gets bail
New Delhi, July 26: A Delhi court on Tuesday, July 26, granted bail to former Principal Secretary in the Delhi government. Kumar was being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for corruption charges.
Kumar who was recently arrested by the CBI on charges of corruption had sought bail from a Delhi court. The bail today was granted to him after he was asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.
The arrest of Kumar had snowballed into a major controversy with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accusing the centre of a witch hunt.
The CBI had conducted raids at the Delhi secretariat following a complaint against Kumar in which allegations of corruption were made.
The CBI was acting on a complaint by another bureaucrat Ashish Joshi who had alleged that Kumar had helped some former bureaucrats while setting up a software firm.
The CBI claimed that during a search conducted at the residence of Kumar they had recovered cash of Rs 2.2 lakh and also foreign currency valued at around Rs 3 lakh.
Further, Kumar had also been accused of criminal misconduct. The CBI officials say that they were trying to ascertain how this firm was favoured and whether Kumar had used his official position to do the same.
