Election Commission likely to announce LS poll schedule in early March

New Delhi, Feb 19: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to announce the schedule of the Lok Sabha elections in the first week of March. The polling may be conducted in six phases.

As per the sources, the announcement of the elections will be made between March 6-10. The model code of conduct will come into force as soon as the dates are announced.

Assembly polls in Andhra, Odisha & Sikkim will also be held with LS polls

Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Odisah and Sikkim will also be held with the Lok Sabha elections. The entire procedure is likely to be completed by May 15. The elections will see deployment of 1.2 lakh police personnel. Over 81 crore voters will cast their votes and the number is 9.7 crore more than what it was in 2009.

The commission is also thinking about increasing the expenses of elections this time.

The tenure of the current Lok Sabha will come to an end by May 31.
