According to a ABP News Hindi tweet that cited sources, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi decided to honour the cricketer who saw his last day in international cricket on Saturday. Tendulkar played in his 200th and final test match against a hapless West Indies in Mumbai which India won by an innings and 126 runs.
Tendulkar is a Rajya Sabha MP of the Congress party.
A few days ago, a demand was raised by Congress's Mumbai chief Janardan Chandurkar about stripping of renowned singer Lata Mangeshkar of her Bharat Ratna and Padma awards for she recently endorsed BJP's Narendra Modi as the country's future prime minister. The party earned a lot of criticism over the incident.
