New Delhi/ Mumbai, Oct 31: The Delhi and the Mumbai Police have always been at logger heads and have very often tried to outdo each other. The Home Ministry now has its task cut out in the Chhota Rajan case as it will have to heed to requests from both the Mumbai and Delhi police who would want to question him.
While the Mumbai police have 70 odd cases against him, in Delhi there are six. However it is most likely that Rajan will be taken to Mumbai as there are several more cases over there.
The Delhi police is planning on seeking permission from the Home Ministry to question Rajan in connection with the 6 cases they have registered against him.
However, Home Ministry officials tell OneIndia that Rajan will be taken to Mumbai. He will not be shifted out of there owing to security challenges.
The Delhi Police can question him, but will have to do so in Mumbai. It is on the cases of the Mumbai police that the red corner alert was issued against Rajan in the first place.
Moreover the probe against Rajan will only expand once he is brought to India. There are already some builders and realtors who are under the scanner of the Mumbai police and once Rajan is questioned their links with the underworld will become clear.
Home Ministry officials say that the immediate concerns are executing the treaty in Indonesia and having Rajan extradited.
Officials also say that since he is a high profile prisoner who is under immense threat all arrangements are being made to provide him with high security.
He will not be shifted around and provisions to produce him in court through video conferencing would also be made.
The Intelligence Bureau has already sounded an alert stating that Rajan's rivals could look to hit him once in India.
