Delhi has the highest number of tainted and rich MLAs

New Delhi, Oct 8: Citizens must watch out for whom they vote in the upcoming Assembly elections because according to data analysed by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) for five states- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Chattisgarh and Delhi, 43 per cent of sitting MLAs in Delhi had criminal cases pending against them.

What may even shock you is that Delhi not only has the highest number of legislators with criminal cases pending against them but also the richest MLAs. About 69 per cent of them are crorepatis. Now thats what we call money and muscle power in politics.

Of the 68 legialators analysed by the ADR, 29 had criminal cases pending against them. Six of these have cases of rape and murder pending against them. While the BJP had the maximum number of tainted candidates (35%), followed by Congress (30%) and BSP (23%).

About 43 per cent of Delhi MLAs have a criminal case pending against them

Following the Capital's footsteps was Madhya Pradesh that had 25 percent of candidates who had pending cases against them. Around 16 per cent of MLAs in Rajasthan, 13 per cent in Chattisgarh and 5 percent in Mizoram had criminal cases pending against them.

The analysis also showed the importance of money in these elections, where half of the legislators in the five states were crorepatis.

Even here Delhi was on top of the list with 69 per cent of crorepati MLAs followed by Rajasthan (46%) and Madhya Pradesh (38%).
