On Friday after the Congress party met for a core meeting, reports suggested that there was no concrete decision being made on naming Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
It is understood that the general elections would be fought under his leadership, but whether he should be formally named as the PM candidate is something that was not yet decided.
Congress divided on making a formal announcement on PM candidate
Rahul however, has made it clear that he would willingly take up any responsibility given to him by the party.
There were voices of dissent in the meeting on Friday, where some leaders pointed out saying that there was no need for the party to formally announce their PM candiate ahead of the general elections.
Many others were of the opinion that naming Rahul as the PM candidate would benefit the party in the Lok Sabha eletions.
Congress spokesperson have said that the decision now lies with Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who will take a decision on Jan 17 after the AICC meet.
