New Delhi, Dec 19: Janata Dal (United) leader Ali Anwar on Friday threw his weight behind West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying whichever party forms government at the Centre uses the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as a political tool against its opponents.
Anwar supported the Trinmaool Congress (TMC) chief's allegations that the BJP was targetting her party for making political points over the Saradha chit fund scam.
Anwar said most governments at the Centre have misused the CBI and that is the reason why even the Supreme Court had thought of freeing the organisation, an ANI report said.
On Thursday, Banerjee said the BJP was targetting her party and that the TMC had nothing to do with the Saradha scam. West Bengal transport and sports minister Madan Mitra, a close aide of the chief minister, was arrested by the CBI last week in connection to the scam. Even two of her party's MPs have been arrested.
Banerjee said the BJP is jealous of the TMC and is trying to bulldoze the democracy.
