Be ready, PM Modi tells Babul Supriyo ahead of Cabinet rejig: Report
According to a report published in Anandabazaar Patrika on Saturday, Supriyo, MP from Asansol in South Bengal, was called up by the prime minister himself and asked to be present in the national capital at the time of Cabinet expansion and oath-taking. The PM might also host the new Cabinet members over tea and the Asansol MP has also been asked to be ready for that invitation, the report added.
Babul Supriyo, 43, will be the third BJP minister from Bengal at the Centre. Satyabrata Mukhopadhyay and the late Tapanh Sikdar became central ministers during the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee but then the BJP was an ally of the TMC. This time, the two parties are fighting tooth-and-nail to grab the top position in the next assembly election scheduled in 2016.
Supriyo said he did not have much information on this and would follow the top leadership's instruction, the ABP report said.
The BJP won two seats in Bengal in this year's Lok Sabha election, the other being Darjeeling where Surendrajeet Singh Ahluwalia won. It also opened its account in the state assembly after winning one seat in the recently held bypoll.
