Did JMB terrorists plan to assassinate Sheikh Hasina?

JMB had planned to assassinate Hasina
New Delhi, Oct 29: Bangladeshi terror group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, that sent security forces into a tizzy, had planned to assassinate the country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a news agency has revealed.

According to a news report in Reuters (read here) , the National Investigation Agency (NIA) uncovered a plot by the terror group where Sheikh Hasina was said to be a target, three senior Indian security officials told Reuters.

Bangladesh has not yet made any formal comment on the issue but have said that the security has been beefed up on the border with India. Two members of the group were killed earlier this month, while making bombs at home.

Security officials say that the terrorists used West Bengal as a 'safe haven' and that is when they stumbled upon the conspiracy against Hasina. "The strategy was to hit the political leaders of the country and demolish the democratic infrastructe of Bangladesh," a senior Indian Home Ministry official said.

Bangladesh said that it had received information unofficially from India about a possible terror threat to top politicians in Dhaka.
