New Delhi, March 4: Election Commission officials will attend a crucial meeting here on Friday to decide the dates of Assembly elections in five states---Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry.
The commission officials have visited all the five poll-bound states and sought the opinion of the regional parties. There has been a delay in announcing the dates owing to uncertainty over deployment fo security forces for the polls.
Of the five states, while Tamil Nadu may see a single-phase election, West Bengal may go to a muti-phase poll owing to a high number of sensitive booths. Central forces have already started arriving in that state to get themselves familiar with the local conditions and take control of the areas.
The counting is likely to be held after May 10.
