Arvind Kejriwal-Najeeb Jung tussle: Rajnath Singh to meet President Mukherjee today
New Delhi, May 20: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing tussle between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung over posting and transferring bureaucrats.
On Tuesday, both Kejriwal and Jung separately met President Mukherjee and told him their respective versions.
Jung also met Rajnath Singh after his discussion with the president.
Kejriwal, who became the chief minister of Delhi for the second time in February after getting a massive majority in the assembly election, accused Jung of interfering in the working of his government and even threatening officials.
Kejriwal also had issues with the LG during and after his first stint as the chief minister that lasted only 49 days.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also met the president along with Kejriwal, said they had a good meeting with President Mukherjee. They said they complained to the president against Jung, alleging he is trying to run Delhi the way he did during the President's Rule.
They said the LG is bypassing the chief minister to direct the officials, putting democracy at a stake.
The duo told the president that Jung insisted on appointing Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting chief secretary and is now interfering in the appointment of secretaries as well.
The deputy chief minister said Mukherjee gave them a patient hearing and sought more details. They said he was worried over the matter and promised to look into it.
