The party has begun the process of distributing application forms and will accept the forms from ticket seekers, who wish to stand for the party in the upcoming Assembly elections till September 30.
The screening committee will then scrutinise all the forms from the first week of October.
The party is hailing the idea of application through prescribed forms as the brainchild of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who wanted a transparent and an improved candidate selection process.
While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) already declared its list of candidates in more than 50 assembly seats out of the 70, the Bahujan Samaj Party too is in the process of finalising all its candidates. Party giants like Congress and BJP, on the other hand, have just begun the process.
Applicants will have to furnish all details both personal and political
Aspirants who have already been nominated by the district and block level office bearers of the party do not have to apply again, while other ticket seekers, will have to furnish complete details about their personal life and political experience in the form, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Jai Prakash Agarwal said.
Apart from their basic details, they will also have to say if they have ever contested elections against the Congress, their achievements, both in political and in social life and also give details of any criminal cases registered against them.
According to senior party leaders, the screening teams of the All India Congress committee will form smaller groups to further scrutinise the minute details of all the forms and start shortlisting tje candidates.
