New Delhi, June 10: A day after Delhi police arrested Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar, noose is likely to get tightened around another AAP MLA from Delhi Cantt constituency, Surender Singh over fake degree charges.
On May 20, Wednesday, Delhi High Court had sent a notice to Singh for possessing a fake degree.
BJP leader Karan Singh Tanwar had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court over this matter. [AAP MLA gets court notice for possessing fake degree]
According to Tanwar, "Surender Singh gave wrong information in his affidavit that he did his graduation in B.A. from the Sikkim University in 2012."
However, Sikkim University had rejected his claim, an RTI query revealed.
The High Court had given Singh, four-week time to respond to the notice and also directed the Election Commission to furnish all his educational certificates. The next hearing will take place in July 2015.
Meanwhile, Singh has claimed innocence in the case and said that he has all the documents to prove the case in court and also dismissed the petition as "politically motivated".
36-year-old Singh, had earlier served as the National Security Guard (NSG) commando in the Indian army. He also fought in the Kargil war in 1999.
During 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Singh had lost his hearing power, when he shot at two attackers.
Singh left army in 2011 and after struggling for over an year for his pension, Aam Aadmi Party made sure that Singh gets his pension. [BJP leader accuses ex-MLA of manhandling official]
In 2013 and in 2015 assembly elections in Delhi, Singh defeated BJP candidate Karan Singh Tanwar from Delhi Cantt constituency.
