New Delhi, Feb 14: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal remained adamant on his Jan Lokpal Bill and introduced it in the assembly on Friday amid protests by the Congress and BJP over its constitutionality. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had advised Assembly Speaker M S Dhir not to entertain the bill on procedural grounds.

42 MLAs voted against the bill's introduction in assembly

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Somnath Bharti thereafter said that it is a victory of the people of Delhi that the bill had been tabled successfully. But bad news soon took over for the party that came to power just a couple of months back when Dhir, facing pressure from the opposition, took a vote and the introduction of the bill was defeated. While 42 MLAs in the 70-member Assembly voted against the introdcution of the bill, only 27 members backed it.

The chief minister, however, wen ahead with the legislative business even after the Speaker declared the bill as "not tabled".
