Many ATMs across the country have been recalibrated to dispense Rs 2000 notes but have found very few takers. While people are queuing up outside ATMs and banks to lay their hands on new notes, ATMs dispensing Rs 2000 notes see no queues or crowding.
"Taking Rs 2000 isn't the challenge but finding change for it surely is. Would have been better if money was being dispensed in Rs 100 or Rs 500 notes", said a customer after withdrawing Rs 2000 note from an ATM in Mysuru. Over 200 ATMs have already been recalibrated in Mysuru city alone to dispense Rs 2000 notes but very few are approaching the ATM to withdraw the high value notes.
Most state run banks' ATMs are being recalibrated first across the country to enable customers to withdraw money in Rs 2000 denomination but customers choose to queue up outside ATMs that dispense Rs 100 notes as against ones that are dispensing high value notes.
