"Is it because I am Muslim?" asked Salman while adding that Modi need not apologise for Gujarat riots 2002. He said that the BJP leader should not apologise for the communal violence since the judiciary has already exonerated him.

The actor, who played it safe in Ahmedabad when asked about his preference as the future prime minister of India, stuck to his position during the interview. When asked about endorsing Modi, Khan said he is not in favour of letting his view influence his fans' judgment.

Salman recently met Modi at a kite-flying ceremony in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Salman also said thathis recent experience of flying kites with the Gujarat chief minister was a fun-filled one.
Calling the Gujarat CM "cultured", the actor also said that he was very impressed with Modi and that he had treated his (Salman's) sister and women members of his unit with great respect.
