Osmanabad: Anna Hazare gets 'death threat' letter

Mumbai, May 4: Anti-corruption crusader and Gandhian Anna Hazare reportedly received a "death threat" undated letter on April 29.

According to a report, 76-year old Hazare's office got an anonymous letter warning him "he would meet the fate of Pavanraje Nimbalkar if sitting Osmanabad MP and NCP candidate Padam Singh Patil faces defeat".

During his election campaigns, Hazare had openly opposed Patil's candidature and appealed people not to vote for him.

Last month, Hazare had planned to fast against Patil in Osmanabad but he reportedly got several calls between April 9 to April 14, threatening that he would pay the price if Patil lost elections.

Hazare has reportedly not yet filed any complaint with regard to the letter. But his lawyer Milind Pawar has already written to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Home Minister RR Patil, demanding upgrading Anna's security from Z to Z+ grade.

Hazare has been on the hit list of 'criminal' candidate Patil since 2003 and the latter even conspired to eliminate him in 2009 by giving a contract of Rs 30 lakh to two people.

Last year also, an anonymous letter had threatened Hazare with the same fate as the anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar, who was shot dead in Pune.
