Mumbai: Fight over tobacco, inmate stabbed
Mumbai, Aug 28: An inmate of Thane Mental Hospital was attacked by another inmate for not giving him tobacco.
Yamraj Patil attacked Vasant Karpe around 12:30 am on Wednesday, Aug 26. According to sources, Yamraj asked for tobacco while Karpe was asleep.
Karpe denied his need saying that he doesn't have any. An irritated Patil attacked Karpe with a sharp object. The victim received injuries in his abdomen and back in the attack.
He was admitted to the Thane Civil Hospital.
The attendants on-duty rushed to the spot and prevented Patil from causing more injuries to Karpe
The victim has been undergoing treatment for the past 15 years at the mental hospital. He is the native of Nashik and is in a stable condition now.
Meanwhile the attacker Yamraj Patil has been shifted to the isolation ward by the doctors as a preventive measure.
According to the doctors, the attendants who were on duty acted promptly and gave the victim medical care before taken to the hospital.
The reason for the attack, according to the doctors is that the patient suddenly got excited and hyperactive.
