A police constable spotted the headless body of a middle-aged woman lying by the road side besides the path near the railway tracks leading to Nalla Sopara, Waliv assistant police inspector Y S Awhad said.
The body, of a woman around 35-40 years of age, had several stab wounds.
A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits who chopped off the body and dumped it, he said.

According to police, the culprits apparently dumped the body last night beside the railway tracks in a bid to destroy evidence.
An offence under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) of IPC has been registered against unknown persons, police said, adding that search is also on to find the chopped head of the victim.
