Mumbai, Aug 5: A fashion shoot by a city-based photographer showing a model being surrounded and held by men in a setting resembling the spine-chilling gangrape incident on a board a bus in New Delhi in the night of December 16, 2012, has stirred a controversy.

The series of photographs of Raj Shetye titled "The Wrong Turn" showed a woman trying to protect herself from some men inside a bus. In one of the images, she was even seen struggling between two males, one of whom were seen trying to watch hold of her leg aggressively.

Later in an interview to Buzzfeed.com, Shetye defended the shooting said it was not based on the ghastly incident of 2012 that had taken the entire world by storm. Six persons carried out barbaric torture on a 22-year-old paramedic student inside a bus which she had boarded with her male friend to reach home after watching a film.

The braveheart, who was given the name of 'Nirbhaya', died 13 days later in a hospital in Singapore where she was flown for better treatment. The incident had a serious impact on India's legal-political system.

The photographer was slammed on social media for the photo shoot

"It is not based on Nirbhaya. But being a part of society and being a photographer, that topic moves me from inside. I stay in a society where my mother, my girlfriend, my sister are out there and something like this can happen to them also," the photographer was quoted by Buzzfeed as saying.

Shetye drew flak on Twitter for the shoot, which was described by many as insensitive and shocking.
