About 100 students from the University of Mumbai will be skipping class on Wednesday, Jan 8 protesting the suspension of professor Neeraj Hatekar. Hatekar had criticised the college management last month in a press conference.
After he went public with his opinion, he was suspended from the college. In his statement he rapped the university for its mismanagement and deterioration on the academic status.
Alongwith the students the AAP also joined the protest. AAP leader Mayank Gandhi said that the Vice Chancellor has violated every rule by suspending Neeraj Hatekar, which was not justified.
The protest has gone viral as the students have urged other students to join the the protest via 'Save Mumbai University' page [see here]. Meanwhile Historian Ramchandra Guha tweeted-
The decline of a great public university is a national tragedy. The administrators of Mumbai University must restore intellectual freedom.
