Woman burnt alive for resisting rape
Lucknow, June 1: In yet another shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh, a group of men, including a former village pradhan, doused a minor girl in kerosene and set her ablaze in Basti district on Saturday.

The incident took place in Captanganj police circle of the district.

This incident took place after the girl resisted their attempts to molest her. The group of men set her ablaze using a can of kerosene lying at the site. The girl suffered 90 per cent burns. No arrests were reported till late on Saturday night.

This incident comes to light even as the Uttar Pradesh government grapples with the Badaun rape and-murder.

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Maholi

According to reports, a former pradhan of the village, Munna Shukla, first tried to stall construction work of a boundary wall of a house in Bharvaliya village. When the owner of the house, who was supervising the work, refused to oblige, Shukla and his men beat him up. And, when his 16-year-old daughter arrived at the scene they tried to molest her, reported media.

In charge of the local Captanmganj police station - station officer (SO) Gajendra Rai said that an FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident but no arrests were made.

5-year-old not spared

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Maholi area of Sitapur district, police said today. The victim was assaulted and raped by Pahari (28) when she had gone to pick mangoes from a orchard yesterday, they said.

Police said that on a complaint late evening, an FIR was registered against Pahari, who is still at large. The girl was today sent for medical examination.
