UP: Rape victim shot dead outside court in Mathura

Lucknow, Feb 7: She was raped three years ago and when she mustered the courage to fight for justice, she was murdered.

The shocking incident took place on Thursday morning in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh when the 20-year old rape victim was going along with her mother to a local court to testify against the rapist godman.

The victim died on the spot while her mother is battling for life in a hospital.

The main accused, who raped the victim along with his associates has been identified as a godman named Bairagi Baba of Govindacharya Sewa Mangalam Sansthan in Vrindavan.

Last year, the victim had filed an FIR against the accused but police reportedly took no action and even closed the case.

After coming to know about closure of the case, victim had moved the additional district and sessions court in Mathura.

The police has also failed to explain why, despite a complaint and the case in court, they didn't arrest Govindanand Teerath for almost three years.

The father of the victim was the driver to the former head of the Ashram against whom the allegation of rape had been made.
