UP CM Akhilesh Yadav to visit riot-hit Muzaffarnagar today

Lucknow, Sept 15: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will visit the riot-affected areas of Muzaffarnagar district in the western part of the state on Sunday. He is likely to meet the families of the victims, including Rajesh Verma, a journalist who was killed while reporting on the clashes.

The chief minister is also likely to meet the family of the slain journalist

Although tension eased in the district after the curfew was relaxed for 12 hours on Saturday, the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) has been facing flak for the continuing lawlessness in the state. The chief minister has also been targetted by the opposition for allegedly failing to curb the violence that claimed 48 lives.

While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to visit Muzaffarnagar on Monday, and Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are likely to visit the district next week.
