Lucknow, July 1: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav celebrated his 41st birthday on Wednesday, July 1. Akhilesh began his day by meeting his family members and close aides.
He later went ahead with his official engagements as his supporters and Samajwadi Party (SP) workers celebrated his birthday cutting cakes, organising blood donation camps and distributing fruits to the patients at various hospitals.
Local newspapers were on Wednesday painted in party colours as some supporters gave full page advertisements to wish their leader a healthy and long life.
Akhilesh Yadav planted a sapling on his birthday at the Kukrail picnic spot in Lucknow and kick-started the week-long 'van saptah' (forest week).
Exhorting people to plant more trees, the chief minister said his government has set a target of planting five crore saplings this year, and added that the Samajwadi ethos has always promoted protection of environment.
PM wishes UP CM on birthday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday greetings to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
"Warm birthday wishes to the chief minister of UP, Sri Akhilesh Yadav. May you always remain in good health and are blessed with a long life," Modi tweeted.
The Chief Minister re-tweeted thanking the PM for his wishes. "Adarniya Narendra Modiji, janmdin ki shubhkamanao ke liya apka bahut bahut dhanyawad (Respected Narendra Modiji thank you very much for your birthday wishes)," Yadav said.
UP Governor Ram Naik defies protocol, visits CM to wish him on birthday
Deviating from protocol, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today visited the official residence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to wish him on his birthday.
The Governor, who has claimed of sharing very good relations with Yadav, made a phone call and wished to visit the chief minister this morning, Raj Bhawan sources said.
Naik told the chief minister that though he can extend the birthday greetings on phone but wanted to personally visit him after which the governor went to Yadav's residence and presented to him a bouquet of flowers.
The Governor spent around 20 to 25 minutes at the CM's 5, Kalidas Marg residence in the state capital, sources said adding that minister for political pension Rajendra Chaudhary was also present on the occasion.
