Two-day celebration at Varanasi in memory of Lal Bahadur Shastri

Varanasi (UP), Oct 2: The Regional Cultural Centre along with the Bharatiya Jan Jagaran Samiti and Janjati Evam Lok Kala Sanskriti Sansthan has organised a two-day celebration on October 1 and 2 to mark the 109th birth anniversary of late prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The two-day event saw series of events including felicitation of jawans (soldiers), kisans (farmers), carrying out the Shastri Rath and a cultural programme.

On Tuesday, the Shastri Rath began its journey from the late leader's paternal house at Ramnagar.

The event saw felicitation of jawans and kisans whom Shastri had championed

Others event during the day included paying tributes to the former PM by garlanding his statue and holding a seminar. In the evening, a deepdaan programme was held at Shastri Park in Sigra.

On Wednesday, a flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Shastri's house in Ramnagar and it was followed by the felicitation ceremony.
