Allahabad, Jan 31: On the pious occasion of "Mauni Amavasya snan" (the sacred bath) lakhs of devotees took a holy dip in the Ganges on Thursday.

Over 30 lakh devotees took the holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati at "Triveni Sangam" in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The locals from nearby areas started thronging the Ganga ghats since early morning.

The devotees offered prayers to the Sun God and performed "yagna" and "daan".

All the temples were decked up with decorations to perform the evening "Ganga aarti".

Security was beefed up at the Ganga ghats to avoid ant untoward incident during the auspicious occasion.
